Pears are a part of the Rose family and are one of the few fruits that have an extensive history, reaching back to about 1000 B.C. and in 1700’s were given the name “butter fruit” for its soft, butter-like texture. Before tobacco was introduced to Europe, the pear leaf was actually smoked. Our Pears travel all the way from South Africa where they are halved, pips removed and then lay out in the sun to dry. There are over 3000 varieties of pears grown around the world and every pear grown in the USA is hand-picked from the tree.
