Apostle Hot Sauces
From their website Mat and Lydia describe how Apostle Hot Sauce came to be: Apostle Hot Sauce was conceived in 2018 following our move to Paekākāriki. Mat had been concocting delicious sauces for years, so in an attempt to get to know our community, we started selling them at our local market. With an overwhelmingly positive response from our new friends and neighbours we decided we had to do more. We have a strong passion for using local ingredients, the peppers we use are hand picked and the Kawakawa leaves are from our own garden. We refuse to use any artificial colours, preservatives, flavours or thickeners, instead relying on fresh ingredients to create our vibrant range of sauces.
Judas Iscariot – Spicy Smoked Barbecue 150ml
Manuka smoked chipotle & slow roasted onions stewed together in tangy pineapple juice and sweetened with sticky black molasses. So good you could kiss it.
Ingredients: apple cider vinegar, pineapple juice (pineapple juice, vitamin C), onion, tomato paste, manuka smoked jalapeño, water, molasses, brown sugar, salt, garlic powder, spices, activated charcoal.
Saint Phillip – Roasted Capsicum & Chilli 150ml
Slow roasted capsicum & cayenne chillies create a rich, smokey depth of flavour in our take on a classic red hot sauce.
Ingredients: capsicum (24.9%), red wine vinegar, chilli (12%), onion, black pepper, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt
Saint Peter – Kiwifruit & Kawakawa Verde 150ml
A unique blend of tangy kiwifruit, peppery New Zealand Kawakawa and locally grown jalapeños. This piquant verde is great with tacos, fish, roast veggies & more.
Ingredients: apple cider vinegar, kiwifruit (23%), capsicum, jalapeño, salt, kawakawa (less than 1%).
Saint Matthew – Chocolate & Manuka Chipotle 150ml
A deep floral and earthy blend of manuka smoked chipotle and dark cocoa create a rich base for our spectacularly full-flavoured Mole Poblano inspired hot sauce.
Ingredients: apple cider vinegar, manuka smoked jalapeño (10%), capsicum, onion, tomato paste, cocoa powder (4.8%), salt, garlic powder, cinnamon, cumin, pepper.
Saint John – Mango, Turmeric & Ginger 150ml
We have perfectly balanced a blend of succulent mango, refreshing ginger & vibrant turmeric to create a uniquely fruity hot sauce.
Ingredients: mango puree (39%), apple cider vinegar, carrot, manzano chilli, ginger (less than 1%), sugar, turmeric (less than 1%), salt, pepper.
Our mission is to provide our customers with great food without the packaging waste which is why we want to offer all our customers a packaging reuse system. Next to each food item you will see the following check boxes “jar” “onya bag” “cotton bag” and “my containers”. If you don’t select any of these options we will pack your order into food-grade brown paper bags. These bags are able to be composted in a home compost. However, those brown paper bags are a resource that takes a lot of energy to create and if they find their way to landfill they emit methane and other greenhouse gases. The last thing we want is to contribute to any landfill therefore we have come up with options outlined below to help reduce packaging waste :)
How it works for jars
The cost of the glass jar is a deposit, if you’re local you can bring the jars back to us for a $1 refund and we will sterilise and reuse them.
How it works for bags
You have the choice of an ONYA bulk food bag or a Native Loom organic cotton bulk bag. When you choose either of these options you are paying cost price for a beautiful reusable product and we fill place your food items straight into a new bag. Once you’ve shopped with us three times we will then send you a postage paid courier bag so that you can send your clean, empty bags back to us to be refilled.
How it works for "my containers"
If you are local you can use your own containers, simply place your order online then drop your clean and dry containers off in store, we will then fill your containers and let you know when they are ready to be collected or send then back to you via local courier.
